Student & Trainee Work Visa

Student & Trainee Work Visa

You can apply to work in New Zealand under this category if you want to obtain real-world experience as a part of your education or training. This visa would enable you to start and finish a course of study or training obligation, such as formal religious instruction, hands-on dentistry or medical training, or finishing an equestrian apprenticeship.

Practical training should be necessary as a part of your studies in addition to meeting the other conditions, such as health and character, to be qualified for this visa. You will need to have a job offer, a spot on a training program, or an apprenticeship, depending on your education or training. You cannot apply for a visa on behalf of a spouse or dependent children; but, they may do so based on their relationship to you.

The length of time this visa is valid depends on its intended use; for example, medical and dental students can stay for up to 6 months, students pursuing practical training can stay for up to 6 months, religious students can initially stay for up to 36 months, and apprentice jockeys can stay for up to 4 years.
